September 10-13 Follow the Flag hung a flag in Rock Canyon in Provo in honor of those who died on September 11, 2001.
In the evening they use an enormous spotlight to light it.
It’s pretty close to the base of the canyon, so you can get under it in about 0.3 mile roundtrip walk.
If you turn around you can get a beautiful view of Utah Lake.
This is the original 60 x 30 flag that the Follow the Flag organization started hanging back in 2015. They have since upgraded to the 150 x 78 foot flag for Grove Creek Canyon in Pleasant Grove (July) and Coldwater Canyon in North Ogden (November). This flag is the same size as the flag hung in Little Willow Canyon in Sandy (July). Also, over September 11, you can go to the Healing Fields in Sandy.
Here is a post about Rock Canyon. Other hikes nearby are the Top of the Y, Dry Canyon Alternate, and Utah Lake.
