Rocky Mountain Bighorn Sheep are very cool to see! There are several groups in the local mountains. Just like all wildlife you never want to get too closes to scare or bother them, or to put yourself in danger.
All adult Rocky Mountain Bighorn have horns. The ewes have smaller horns that are similar to a goat, like the two shown above. The males have giant horns that keep growing each year. They can weigh up to 30 pounds!
These photos look like I am only a few feet away, but I am actually at least a 100 feet away and using a zoom lens. This photo I am still zoomed in.
All of these photos were taken near the entrance of American Fork Canyon. I couldn’t see them right from the road, but as I walked farther up, I saw the movement and could get some good photos. In the snow they also leave footprints.
I still have so much to learn about wildlife photography, but I am really enjoying it! Here are some more of the Rocky Mountain Bighorn!
