Lake Solitude is a pond at the top of Solitude Mountain Resort, but you access it from Brighton beginning at Silver Lake. This trail isn’t too steep so it’s great for kids or others who prefer a mellower incline. The trail begins on the far side of Silver Lake and then through aspen trees.

One of the most beautiful aspects of this hike is the wildflowers! There are so many beautiful varieties!

We actually hiked the loop from Lake Solitude to Twin Lakes. Twin Lakes is definitely more impressive, so it might be a little anticlimactic to hike to Twin Lakes first, but it is by far the easier way to go. The hill between the two lakes is very steep and long. My kids were all complaining about it and I agree it was quite the workout. If you do the reverse, it adds some mileage, but not much difficulty to the Twin Lakes trail, which is a little more difficult than the Lake Solitude trail. You can see Lake Solitude shrinking as we hiked.

We were all thrilled to reach the top of the ridge and look over into beautiful Twin Lakes!
